I was speaking to a Norwegian guy the other night. He said the difference with them vs. us in Covid is that they are a high trust society. When Covid started, their government said “we don’t know what this is. We will be cautious and ease up when we know more (or not.)” People trusted them, and then they followed through. Their kids were back in school much faster than in our Blue areas, there was far less social upheaval, and it didn’t really become political. Here, it quickly became a political litmus test and irrational. “Trust the science” was a Democrat slogan, and “Fauci” was a devil to the right. In MoCo in particular Covid zero became an almost jihadist obsession. In other areas not getting the vaccine was a badge of honor. Anyone reasonable who actually looked at data lost faith in government. We will never be able to move forward until we regain public trust and move away from partisanship as our national pastime.
The Amish make everybody look foolish. They literally did nothing different. It’s so embarrassing for the CDC and establishment that they purposefully ignore it.
You are really hanging on to that. The Amish have never been assiduous about reporting births, deaths, or anything else to the standard government, but when it's been studied, they were hit hard as well. But once again -- where do you think the numbers are tracked? At the Amish Deaths website which is updated online, what, weekly? They are closed communities. They don't "report" to anybody. Closed but Not Protected: Excess Deaths Among the Amish and Mennonites During the COVID-19 Pandemic https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8195242/
“Excess deaths” is a means to estimate the lethality of COVID-19 (directly and indirectly). Assessing “excess death” in closed religious communities provides information on how COVID-19 impacted these communities. We use obituary information published in an Amish/Mennonite newspaper to examine excess death among the Amish/Mennonites in 2020. Our results indicate the Amish/Mennonite excess death rates are similar to the national trends in the USA. The excess death rate for Amish/Mennonites spiked with a 125% increase in November 2020.The impact of COVID-19 on this closed religious community highlights the need to consider religion to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Also: Death and religion: ‘Excess deaths’ sweep through Amish and Mennonite communities during COVID-19 pandemic https://wvutoday.wvu.edu/stories/2021/06/22/death-and-religion-excess-deaths-sweep-through-amish-and-mennonite-communities-during-covid-19-pandemic Amish communities have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-covid-amish-idUSL2N2NZ1TY/
