I am the only one who finds this misleading? Angelo Cocchiaro has spent the last six years in work on issues related to students and schools. Angelo has been a student organizer, mobilizing his student peers on issues affecting them. He is prepared to advocate in the very same spirit for our most important APS stakeholders: students. Angelo is also a former childcare provider and certified physical fitness & nutrition professional, part of the reason he is putting equity in food policy at the center of his campaign. Angelo also brings to the table a background of academic research in Title IX policy, gender-based violence in educational settings, and childcare policy. Angelo’s involvement in our community dates back nearly a decade to 2014. Then, as a 13-year-old, Angelo participated in the Honor Flight Network with his granddad, taking military veterans to the Iwo Jima Memorial near where he lives now in Rosslyn. Angelo now sits on the APS School Health Advisory Board and is a member of a range of civic organizations, including the Arlington Rotary Club and its Youth Committee, the Radnor-Ft. Meyer Heights (RAFOM) Civic Association, and others. Angelo is a working group member of the Arlington County Food Security Coalition. Having experienced food insecurity himself, Angelo knows how important the issue is, especially as pandemic-era assistance programs are ending. Angelo is running for the Arlington School Board to bring new voices to the table, bring people together, and deliver on the change that's overdue.
- claim: involvement in community dates back to 2014 because he went with his grandpa to drive Vets to the Iwo Jima memorial. TRUTH: Angelo has lived here less than 6 months. - claim: sits in school health advisory board and early childhood committee. Fact: He only showed up to 1 of 3 SHAB meetings since joining in Nov ‘22 according to publicly available meeting minutes and there’s been a total of ONE early childhood committee meeting since he joined a couple months ago. A whole TWO APS-related meetings under his belt - claim: News he was withdrawing from race was a rumor. Fact: it was published on his own website - claim: he worked for Don Beyer. Fact: since been removed or downgraded to “helped re-elect” aka canvassed - claim: he’s done academic research on gender issues fact: wtf knows but I see it’s been downgraded to “background in academic research.” Dude probably took a class in college that looked at these issues The guy is a FRAUD. I cannot believe the Dems are putting this guy on ticket without fully vetting him and so soon after Santos.
I'm with you all the way until this comment. The Dems aren't "putting" him on the ticket. You don't need to be vetted to get your name on a caucus ballot. Now, if the voters actually give him the endorsement, another conversation should be had.
Lord help us if this conartist wins the endorsement. Everyone seems to assume MT will win but can’t forget people said the said thing when trump was running!! Everyone needs to take this seriously. I hope the press covers this more.
Will he even serve his entire term if he’a only shown up for 1 advisory committee meeting? Advisory committe meetings are 2 hours 1x a month. Sb meetings are every other week, 3-4 hours on average including closed meetings. Plus all the other work sessions and responsibilities. What possible interest does he actually have in APS? Speaking of closed meetings, nothing about his details instills confidence that he will be a good steward of confidential information.
He was a no show at Ashton heights Civ Fed forum this week as well.
If he does not win this election I bet he will not show up for even a second time at any of these committees he quickly joined.
Mmmmhmmmm. He will go find some other community where he has similarly deep roots and start again. I am completely unimpressed with his BS. I have not voted in caucuses because I loathe the loyalty pledge, even though I’ll surely vote for the D candidate in the end anyway, but I’ll definitely be voting this time. This whole thing is a total farce. The pandemic broke us. I have zero love or tolerance for the APE zealots, but the enemy of my enemy is not my friend, folks. Not this time.
Same. I can't believe I'm finally voting in the caucus.
Yeah I am super resentful and it seems like we have to actually go vote in person. This Angelo person doesn’t even seem like he wants to run that badly. What a disaster.
