I volunteer at a homeless shelter pretty regularly, and nearly all of the people volunteering would describe themselves as “conservative.” A conservative believes that social responsibility is best left in the community, and is therefore more likely to financially support and volunteer at local organizations. Someone who is more liberal might believe that these are better taken on by government sponsored organizations. For example, one thing I hear often is that people are frustrated that many of the shelters and agencies providing support to people experiencing homelessness have religious or conservative values. The conservative reaction to that criticism is, “open your own shelters!” The liberal reaction is that there should be more government funding for housing or homeless shelters. [/quote]
