This calendar is brutal on kids. I can hardly believe that next week will be even worse than this week. I am so fed up with this woke school board and their crappy calendar. They're scum. Has anyone counted how many days off the kids have had this Fall??????
9 days off through Thanksgiving, 12 days including Thanksgiving break. So for the parents that had to take 9 days off just this fall, that's essentially their vacation for the year.
Sounds like some parents didn’t look at the calendar ahead of time and plan for it. I personally love the breaks for the kids (and we are a dual working family). Anything that makes summer shorter is a win.
Why???????????? How is that a win for anyone?
It’s a win for education because there is a TON of learning loss over the summer. If we move to shortening summer even more, I would more than welcome that. And that learning loss is highest for low income kids.
Are you a parent or teacher? I'm only a parent but it's been good for my kids. MS and HS. The early mornings for the MS are so early, it's nice to have to have a break here and there. And since they are both changing A days B days every day anyway, they take it all in stride. You realize that this isn’t about adding days to the calendar right? And that there are summer programs that counter summer learning loss that are free? The learning loss happening this fall is probably worse than anything you’d see in a normal summer. This is ridiculous. Consistency is key to learning. A bunch of random days off makes things worse.
+100. No one has been able to hit their stride this fall. It's so bad for kids.
Bad how? Academically? Emotionally? Physiologically?
All of the above. A lack of consistency is bad in any context where you are promoting learning and development.
Hm. My kid has been fine. And there are no complaints among DC's friends, either, all of whom welcome the days to rest and catch up on work. Maybe this is an issue for your child/children, but you do not speak for everyone.
