Interesting that you quoted numbers from 2019.  It is now 2021 and those numbers have increased considerably.

2019 is the last year with completed FBI data.  Violent crime is on the rise everywhere. Smaller cities like Peoria, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and Dayton are waaaaay more dangerous than SF. My point was not that crime is not a problem. As you mentioned, I stated crime rates are going up everywhere. [b]My point is that I don't understand why republicans always care so much about San Francisco's issues compared to everywhere else[/b].  It is weird.  I think the rising crime rates are multi-factorial, and that public antipathy for the police among a segment of the left is a factor.  I don't think a particular District Attorney's political leanings are an important factor for violent crime rates. For example, Joe Deters, the head prosecutor in Hamilton County, OH, which includes Cincinnati, is a pretty run-of-the-mill prosecutor. Murder rates are high in Cinci to a much greater extent than SF. The same could be said for Louisville or Dayton, or many other cities. Rising crime is only mentioned by republicans where it fits a political narrative, which is disingenuous.

I am a very conservative person.  I have been to SF many times.... it is a beautiful city.  My sibling (also conservative) lived there for over 30 years.  I have other family there too.

I believe you. There are plenty of conservatives in the City. But the fact remains that if they moved to another American city of comparable size, it would be a move to a city with a higher violent crime rate. Vegas? Phoenix? Dallas? Higher violent crime rates. The only cities capable of supporting a major sports teams (excluding Green Bay) that are clearly safer are Salt Lake City and NYC. It sounds like your family members would have moved out of Milwaukee, or Memphis, or Cincinnati too. It still does not explain the special hatred republicans have for San Francisco.[/quote]

It's not just SF.  SF is in the news now because of the smash and grab robberies going on.  Perhaps you have missed the threads about Philly, LA, Seattle, Portland, and other major cities across the nation that have seen a spike in crime and homicides, in particular.

Cities generally vote for democratic mayors because of education levels and concentrations of minorities. However, cities that have republican mayors, like Tulsa and Jacksonville, are not low crime cities either. In California, Fresno, a city with a republican mayor, is experiencing a much greater surge of murders than San Francisco. The republican obsession with San Francisco crime is just not justified by reality.

If mayors from any party are truly interested in effectively, fairly, and legally lowering crime rates, they must study and follow the reforms Rudi Giuliani put in place in NYC, lowering the murder rate there by over 80%, making the city safe for all, and increasing tourist revenue dramatically.

NYC hit its pinnacle of low crime under Bloomberg, many years after Giuliani was gone.  Giuliani's "broken windows" policies only had marginal benefits.  Had more to do with increased size of the police force, increased incarceration rates, and demographic shift of fewer youths.[/quote]

No sympathy for those who commit crimes. A sweet innocent 5 year old from Georgia was just taken to Alabama and sexually abused before being strangled to death. The guy has a history but yet walking around freely to hurt others. [/quote]
