Asking seriously, not as a diss, OK? "Friends" was a huge deal, I get it. But other than "Friends" has she either been in a movie or TV show that was either a huge popular hit or scored her serious critical praise for her art? I'm not sure where "overachiever" comes from, at least in acting terms. I know the streaming series about the morning TV news show has apparently done well but it's not something I hear talked up or read critics gushing about as great TV. So asking for real, how is she an overachiever compared to any actor who also has kept consistently getting work? She was cast in what ended up being a very popular show and got a lot of media attention during that time and tabloid attention since then, based entirely on her being in that show and not on any subsequent [i]work.[/i] She seems like a nice enough person as presented in interviews etc. but I kind of boggle at the idea she's either a commercial-movie superstar or a highly-regarded artist. She's a working actor who got lucky being cast in what turned out to be a phenomenon, did a good, hardworking job once she was cast in it, and keeps getting some roles. That is NO insult, in an industry where it's hard to make a living and things are very competitive. [b]But the idea that she's some kind of icon or great actress is beyond me.[/b][/quote]

I used the term 'overachiever' not 'great actress' or 'icon'. she is a very accomplished actress despite not being insanely pretty. she is someone who is quite talented (great comedic talent, which is not that common in women) and attractive but accomplished vastly more than 99.9% of similarly situated aspiring actresses. to imply (as PP did) that she would have done better for herself if she pursued plastic surgery is preposterous. she did as well as she could possibly do, and then some. I'm not the PP who talked about plastic surgery but I'm the one who wrote the post above questioning "overachiever." She's achieved, but she also got a gigantic break very early, and has been (smartly, to her credit) able to parlay her being cast long ago in a hit series into a string of movies and now another TV show. That's a solid career, which I what I mean when I say I don't diss her at all for that. As for "accomplished" actress I'd go with "gets the work done." Maybe it's a matter of semantics-- "Accomplished" would be, to me, about versatility and depth and taking on challenging material (beyond the one serious movie of hers I know of). She did as well as she could possibly do coming off "Friends," I agree, I just don't see her as special at all as an actress. Fine, but not exceptional.

By the way, the comment about "great comedic talent, which is not that common in women" -- you're perpetuating a pretty silly stereotype there, do you realize that? It's the fallback of some men that "women just can't be funny!" and that's what kept women out of stand-up, sketch shows and TV and movie comedy for so long. Plenty of funny women if you bother to look. They just were getting cast in comedy leads until fairly recently. But they were, and are, there. Many more than just Jennifer Aniston. [/quote]
