All races can have racist individuals and for anyone who says otherwise is part of the problem, not solution. I worked for a year in the DC government. I was the only white person there and it was made clear to me they hired me to be their diversity, never gave me any real work to do, were completely inappropriate with their insistence I do things like put up their christmas tree in the office (which I did but they complained I did it wrong - I thought I did great given it was my first Christmas tree and I don't celebrate Christmas), wouldn't give me access or any supplies (fine, I brought my own including a computer) and made all kinds of racial and other comments. My only saving grace was I had some great co-workers who tried their best to shield me from much of it. They won and I quit but I just stayed to get the work experience on my resume even though I did secretarial and cleaning most of the time for them vs. my actual skill set. I went to work for a county. White supervisor told me she was told not to hire me or any white people as they were looking for specific race but I was the only one qualified so they hired me. It was made clear I'd never be promoted and that my race was an issue. Not sure if it was good or bad she told me but it was clear what was going on in the agency. These things should not happen to anyone of any race but they do. Its life. You either deal with it or leave.
Okay, sure you had one bad experience. But, you can jog without getting shot. You can get pulled over for speeding without getting shot. You can shop in any store without makeup and get a hello (unlike a billionaire like Oprah). Your family hasn't been subject to systemic racism for generations.
Actually two, and yes, I can get shot for speeding. Look at the statistics of police killings. And, no I don't always get a help or help at stores, especially depending on how I dress. And, my family is jewish so yes, we do know a bit about it but my grandparents were too worried about surviving the holocaust, but let me guess, you don't believe that happened or it wasn't important.
When are yall going to realize that if and when racism ends for Black people it ends for everyone. Your stories f how you have been treated poorly go away to, the indtances of white people getting killed by cops ends if no people are killed by cops. The only downside to ending racism is you lose your privilege. Black people aren't seeking revenge... we are demanding respect.
What on earth are you talking about? If racism ends for Blacks, that does not mean it ends for other groups as well. You have a very narrow view of things. You can demand respect, but respect is earned and you need to earn respect for others. If you make racist comments, for example about muslims, no, regardless of your race I will not respect you. How you behave, your actions, your character and how you treat others all earn respect. No one should be entitled to respect because of the color of their skin. Racism is not just a black and white issue. And, plenty of white racists and plenty of black racists and they aren't going to stop their thinking so there is a far better approach, and one that includes getting better educations for your young people and ensuring that they at a minimum get a high school education and preferably a college degree to help those who have less get out of that cycle of poverty. Teach them good financial skills, teach them how to care for a home, a family and give them all they need - clothing, food, books and a roof over their head to make sure they are successful. The killing by cops needs to stop. We all agree. But, it needs to stop for all races. Most cops are decent people just trying to survive and feed their families, just like you. Some cops are really good people who want to make a difference in their community. And some are bad. We need to weed out the bad cops, but also the bad people in every profession that works directly with people - teachers, nurses, doctors, health care workers, nursing home workers, social workers, etc but our court and other government and private systems are set up to protect those people. We also need to give our police more training to handle difficult situation, learn not to be aggressive or combative and educate them on basics like mental health and health emergencies (as people can come off looking unstable in health emergencies when its something very different). Just saying, hey we need to end violence by cops is a great start, but the real question is how are you going to achieve that. You do that by weeding out the bad cops and give lots of support and education the good ones. And, increase their pay as many of them aren't paid well and have to work multiple jobs which increases stress. You have a very narrow way of looking at things. Racism doesn't end simply for fixing it for one group. Racism ends by fixing it for all groups. And, that includes the poor whites and other races, religions, groups who are equally suffering for all the many reasons out there.
