Exactly. They’re such losers. It’s unrealistic that parents as thoughtful and responsible and loving as Rebecca and Jack can produce such losers. There’s no reason for the two of them to be as dysfunctional as they are. It’s just a poor plot point.[/quote]

NP. No reason for them to be dysfunctional? Their father died unexpectedly when they were in high school. That's enough of a blow to throw even the most ambitious kid off track.  And somehow their house also burned down, which would also be traumatic. [/quote]
