What is puzzling is why they would ask for 1 bitcoin vs just taking the reward if legit.
: Not at all puzzling, IMO. Possibilities: 1. It is a scam. 2. It is a real tip, and person wants to make sure (s)he gets the money. Reward specifies "leading to the arrest." There are lots of reasons why the culprit in a case like this wouldn't be arrested--dies in a shootout with law enforcement; disappears and is on "most wanted list" for years, etc. CNN pointed out that there are several real life cases in which rewards ended up being split among multiple people--e.g., person who identified a suspect has to share with the person who gave a tip as to that person's whereabouts. 3. Tipster doesn't want to pay taxes on the reward money. Thinks there's a better chance of avoiding have to do that if he uses bitcoin. 4. Tipster thinks the culprit and associates will have a harder time figuring out who "snitched" if he uses bitcoin. In this case, if person suspects organized crime or a cartel are involved, that could be especially important.
