To those who are saying India *needs* to support Europe/the West for the greater good and India's own good, I am not really sure you know Indian history. China annexed and occupied a large part of India in Sino-India war, there's been no condemnation of that from the US or any European country. China's actions in South Asia have been as bad as Russia's actions in the Baltics, but nobody came to India's aid. And the history gets worse. Pakistan, in trying to invade and occupy Kashmir, blatantly got U.S. support. And when I say U.S. support, I mean actual support - weapons, aircraft, all types of high-end military gear. (India still kicked Pakistan's ass after all of that, so there's that.) And in 1971, during the Indo-Pak war, the U.S. literally sent their Naval ships to attack India...and Russia was the only country who intervened. What the eff has the U.S. done to ever earn India's trust and friendship? They will need to be as blatantly pro-India as they are pro-Israel. They have to openly and unambiguously cut all ties with Pakistan. They have to fund India and arm India. And then maybe a real bond of real trust and real friendship can happen.
There's quite a bit of outright lies in that. 1. How does letting Russia get away with this help them vis a vis China? Does Russia suceeding in taking Ukraine by force and wiping out their identity make it more or less likely for China (or Pakistan) try and do the same? 2. Kashmir was never settled after partition. Both India and Pakistan invaded and annexed it. 3. Pakistan's invasion of India directly led to the dissolution of SEATO. An Asian version of NATO. Let's be clear, the US cancelled a defensive alliance because one of the members invaded India. Nixon did provide some intelligence and support in the background though. It should be remembered that India rejected joining SEATO and was officially non-aligned during the Cold War. 4. Following the end of the first Afghan War. A war in which it took 10+ years to approach Russia's week old casualty numbers in Ukraine. The US cut Pakistan off and held up a larg shipment of F16s that Pakistan had already paid for. This was done in response to Pakistan's nuclear program. Let's be clear again, the US ended an alliance with Pakistan a second time because of Pakistan's actions towards India. India was non-aligned during the Cold War while Pakistan was western aligned. Despite that the US repeatedly took steps against Pakistan when it threatened India. Pakistan is no longer Western aligned. It has been China and Russian aligned since Imran Khan, former cricket player and london playboy, came to power. Putin was clearly threatening India when he basically announced the invasion alongside Imran Khan.
