Here's the deal: It's courageous when Joe Smith transitions to Jane and overcomes all obstacles thrown her way. It's not all that heroic when Bruce transitions very publicly to Caitlyn given that the media is salivating for someone to say something remotely negative so they can pounce on it. As such, Bruce enjoyed an unprecedented and global support replete with positive media coverage, a gajillion supportive tweets, and the title of hero. I'm happy for Caitlyn, but her story is not the norm. And she really hasn't had to overcome any adversity. Her transition was easy given her wealth, status and the universal support she has received. They are projecting 500 million in future earnings for her. She's fine. But she's not a hero. She's lucky.
And I wonder when the PC will wear off? Will there ever be a time when it's okay to say something remotely critical of Caitlyn? I'm not talking about the gender issue. Will there ever be a time when tabloids will be allowed to comment on her weight, wrinkles or outfits (like virtually all tabloids do for female celebrities)? What if she has another accident or gets a DUI? Can the media comment on that without being called anti-trans?
