There are plenty of examples of things all over the place if you look: 
Examples of lazy-ass bums who have achieved: Albert Haynesworth, Shaq, John McEnroe (All did not maximize their potential and left a lot on the table). 
Examples of overacheivers who aren't/weren't world-class: Rudy Ruettiger, Jim Haslett (at work at 5am everyday for the garbage they put on the field!).[/quote]

Phelps, Peyton and Brady are overachievers; but they work supremely harder most achievers at their tasks.  And we can pronounce their names :D
