So sad! She was a smart, accomplished woman, and those poor kids will need therapy for life. Fairfax was such a disgusting opportunist and I found the rape allegations against him very credible ( I remember the WaPo did an in-depth investigation and interviewed one of his victims) I guess his wife didn’t believe the victim?
Oh chose not to believe for his political career. She could file for divorce back when these allegations came out and before he completely derailed mentally.
Or she did believe, and was trying to be pragmatic about it because she had children, took a vow, and personally had a lot to lose. Narcissists don’t tend to make divorce easy. Especially not ones who still have some degree of power and influence which Fairfax did at the time (he was still making six figures into 2024 apparently). I mean really - how many of you 50 something SAHM Biglaw wives would leave your spouse if you found out today that there was an allegation that they might not have accepted no for an answer during a drunken night in college? Considering how many people put up with worse on the regular because the alternative is poverty, I’m guessing not many.
I think that’s what the point here is. Divorce should come sooner rather than later when there is serious dysfunction or tension. It can get much worse.
