what makes you think there was a "sticking point" for this kid? [b]His stats are right at the lower edge for FCPS scattergrams admission,[/b] and he's competing against 
all the other kids from his school. He was no more likely or less likely than anyone else. The Creative Writing major for a boy probably got him from reject to deferred.[/quote]

Yes. His SAT is too low. 1510
Is the 75th percentile, which you should hope to have coming from a NOVA public. 1470
is the median. A 1440 is too low.[/quote]
