The problem with the ECNL is the coaches, and some parents, get so caught up in the winning and power. As a parent, I just care that my daughter is developing and that she is well positioned to play in college at the highest level her abilities allow. And the bottomline is that all this shadiness by clubs and jockeying for players just hurts the girls. It hurts the confidence of the girls who may ride the pine more now. And it hurts the team chemistry on both clubs. Coaching U16 girls is more than running good drills. There are confidence issues and social issues. It sounds like the girls at both clubs are now going to suffer in those areas because of bad decisions made by men at clubs that only care about profits and power.
1000% agree. This is the only comment sane parents need to read in this insane soccer board. Too many parents focused on the wrong things possibly because they don’t understand soccer. Just caught up with the hype.
This sounds like a problem across the country. Is this only an issue in ECNL?
Absolutely not only an ECNL issue. Have a DD high level ECNL player and the drama/politics that go on with her team is neck and neck with my other DD who is one team below the ECNL RL team, so dont even know what league that is....those parents are even worse because they dont even know what ECNL is and think ECNL RL is the promised land and are constantly back stabbing players and parents to coaches to try and make it to ECNL RL. Really ugly stuff and the worst part is its all for nothing because I dont think even one player on my second daughters team will make it to even D3. these are u13s. All the while girls confidence and desire to participate in an athletic sport and decency goes out the window. At the end of the day a couple years from now, dont know how many will look back with fond memories.
