SLHS demographics, I am pretty sure participating in IB means taking a class, a good number of kids in the IB classes don’t take the exams: Asian 10%, 70% participate in IB Black 13% 32% participate in IB Hispanic: 29% 30% participate in IB White: 40% 70% participate in IB Other: 8% 16% ELL 30% FARMs I know Fox Mill ES was at Oakton for HS before it was moved to SLHS. I am not sure what other ES were moved at the time. I believe Floris had some kids moved to SLHS at the time as well. Herndon, It looks like pretty much everyone who takes an AP class will take the AP exam. Asian 8%, 56% participate in AP Black 6% 30% participate in AP Hispanic: 53% 13% participate in AP White: 29% 66% participate in AP Other: 5% 32% ELL 43% FARMS
Students at South Lakes and Herndon, like students at most high schools in FCPS, get to decide whether to take IB or AP classes. If the schools want to inflate those statistics, they need to get FCPS to agree to make AP English or IB Language the default English class for almost all 11th and 12th graders, like at Marshall. Of course the classes get dumbed down when almost everyone enrolls in them, but it boosts the U.S. News ratings so it's all good.
