Below is Sandy's response to a concern for bussing HVES students to Lewis HS. "Thank you for your email. I appreciate you sharing your time and thoughts. No specific boundaries have been discussed at this point in the process, and as far as I know currently, there are no specific plans to move Hunt Valley to the Lewis pyramid. Please know that as we move through this process, I will be advocating for kids across the Springfield district. Thank you for your patience as we determine the path ahead. Communities will have time and space to input just these types of suggestions with the Superintendent’s robust community engagement. I will definitely make sure that I am publicizing all those opportunities through my newsletter as they arise. In the meantime, continue to check the FCPS website for current information. The site will be updated with a timeline after it is presented to the Board. The Superintendent couldn't set a timeline in place until the policy was approved, so the Board is awaiting that proposal. Thank you, Sandy"
This quote does not provide comfort.
I hear two things. First, don't think you're going to avoid boundary changes just because the West Springfield parents are the noisiest people in my district. My duty is to represent everyone in my district. Second, chill out, because the next thing that Dr. Reid is likely to present is more information about the timeline and process going forward, not specific boundary change proposals.
It is nice that you hear that. I agree with your first thought. Your second, however is crap. As parents, we have been saving for college since birth or pre-birth even. We have been told the importance of extra-curricular activities and have done our best to set our children up for success. We have heard about the importance of leadership positions and building your resume in high school Those are things we have thought about for YEARS. Don’t tell us “not to freak out” when the board just voted to not guarantee grandfathering for our kids who are in middle and lower grades of high school. We have been thinking about this and it is our job as parents to think about this.
