Herndon is nowhere remotely close to losing accreditation. Those are just falsehoods spread by Great Falls residents who don’t want district boundaries changed.
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/restoring-america/community-family/3110860/fairfax-county-high-schools-likely-lose-accreditation-under-virginias-standards/
PP should have added “Republican operatives” although many of them live in Great Falls as well. The author of that piece traffics in rumors, not facts.
Which facts in the article are wrong? The data? That new standards are imminent?
The “chronic absenteeism” reported is no different than half the schools in Fairfax County. It’s been a county-wide problem since COVID. The high drop out rate is a problem, but, among those that remain, academics are strong, according to the FCPS SOL data linked in the article.
Also, both my kid and I (a teacher) missed 5 days of school in the fall of 2023 (last school year) because we HAD to take 5 days for COVID. Add that to the regular sick absences and my straight A kid had lots of letters about attendance. The COVID rule was only lifted in March of 2024 so it was still affecting attendance last year. Once again schools get to be a political whipping boy.
