When I host, I rarely offer anything other than wine, seltzer water and water on the table. Coffee for afterwards and a signature cocktail before. I think it's strange to want a flavored beverage to drink with a meal, like iced tea, lemonade or a soda. I don't stock sodas but I do buy sodas for when I host kid birthday parties (for the parents to drink, not the kids). I usually get a diet and a regular soda.
So you would be upset if my kid grabbed a soda at your birthday party? Believe me, if they are around, he'll find them and enjoy them eschewing water like it's his job.
NP. Any kid “grabbing” things at a birthday party instead of waiting to be served, helping themselves to what is OFFERED when invited to do so, or at the very least ASKING FIRST will not be invited back.
