Does anyone have a opinion about various cast members like monica aldama writing character statements in favour of Jerry getting a reduced sentence? Personally I fall on the side of wanting the criminal justice system to be more about rehabilitation than punishment. The safety of children is of course vital and Jerry will be on the sex offenders register for life so can’t ever be hired to work with children. He is also famous so future parents of teenage boys in cheer will know to keep their sons away from him if they ever happen to cross paths. I don’t think it serves society well to permanently shun it’s wong doers, that just drives them into the shadows where they will operate unfettered by positive people around them. If Monica acts as a mentor to him to keep him on the straight and narrow after release then great!
I generally agree with this approach to criminal justice….except in the case of pedophiles. Haven’t all the researchers and specialists and doctors agreed that they can’t be rehabilitated? If this isn’t true, please correct me. If it is true, best to keep them away from their targets as long as possible and severely restrict their freedoms once released so they don’t have access to abuse again.
