Consider that there are no "magic 20" schools. What is the difference between #23 and #19? Is there any? What if #6 games the rankings? What if #9 is just "top" because it looks good on the tee shirt, but it's coasting on a long-diminished reputation?

What if a school is #30 but is rising in the rankings because it is well run, has dynamic leadership and attracts top notch professors?

Bonus points: what does your kid actually want? A school that has everything your kid wants but is an arbitrary #35 on some list is likely far better than a #15 that they'll hate.

Let's face it, these rankings are more college-industrial-complex BS, designed to amp up ambitious, competitive parents by designing a scarcity-model mind-f*&k. Step back from it and look at these schools more objectively and you'll empower your kid to chart their own path.
