Just makes me sad.  Kids deal with enough without this kind of influence.  I think most parents feel that way.  Not sure the SB was really concerned about kids in the room or if they themselves were deeply offended by the language and pictures.  I doubt most of them were even aware of this kind of stuff.

Like most people posting here, I haven’t read the book, so I have no idea what’s portrayed or how it is framed or if it is, indeed, groundbreaking in some way.   However, I don’t like this trend of raising hell over curricular choices.  It just gives the district administration more grounds to overhaul and micromanage how and what teachers teach which you might think is great but it really isn’t.  They will employ crappy contractors and third party curriculum development “experts” who waste money that needs to go to the front lines, and create more obstacles for teachers to negotiate because they will be “required” to use whatever crap materials the contractors develop.

If your kid’s teacher decides to teach “Lawn Boy,” then make your objections known and an alternative book will be supplied for the short term, and long term “Lawn Boy” will be removed as an option because it is too much trouble to teach.[/quote]
