I can’t believe I have to make this obvious point, but: it upsets people that the powerless LGBT kids enrolled in the school will be harmed by adults.
What are you talking about? None of the kids, LGBT or not, can enroll himself into the school. Parents have to enroll them. Prior to enrollment, parents and the kids, if they choose the same school where Pence is teaching, required to sign the contract that lists all the requirements. If the powerless LGBT kid don't agree with the school statement, no one going to force him to spend there even one day. Do you have an examples when LGBT kid were forced to go to Christian school?
As a person with a trans sibling I can predict what a trans or gay child will do in this situation. The child probably will not tell anyone about his/her true feelings because they are afraid their family will reject them and their society (basically their school) will shun them. They’ve been taught it’s wrong and it’s a sin to be that way and “those” kind of people go to hell. So they won’t come out. They will repress it. And then they will be so miserable, hate life, very likely attempt suicide. But hey, no one was going to “force him to spend even one day there” so it’s no big deal.
In your scenario, what prevents that particular child to go to the all accepting public school?
Pp here. Are you for real? A child who is already out as trans or gay isn’t going to have their parents pick this school and the school won’t take them anyway so stop being obtuse. The issue is a student who hasn’t told anyone their true identity, including their parents. You think a family who would send their kid to a school like this where they have to sign these kind of contracts re anti gay and anti trans is going to be a ok once their kid comes out to them. Get real. No that kid is going to feel ashamed of who they are, suppress it, deny it, hate themselves. Because if they tell, they know their family will reject them, the school will kick them out, they will be rejected. Or at least that’s what they think given the environment they’re in. Maybe their family will have a come to Jesus and actually be Christian and accept hem but you don’t know that until you tell them and they’re too scared to. What that leaves you with is an internally tortured child/teen who is scared, may hate themselves. The trans community, especially trans youth, has the highest suicide attempt rate of any demographic. My MTF sibling has tried 4 times. She is not unique in this way. A real Christian school has compassion and accepts everyone.
And why no one assisted your sibling in granting their wish to die? If you are so supportive of the child's choice, why not to help him/her to die if this is what they want?
