I can’t believe I have to make this obvious point, but: it upsets people that the powerless LGBT kids enrolled in the school will be harmed by adults.
What are you talking about? None of the kids, LGBT or not, can enroll himself into the school. Parents have to enroll them. Prior to enrollment, parents and the kids, if they choose the same school where Pence is teaching, required to sign the contract that lists all the requirements. If the powerless LGBT kid don't agree with the school statement, no one going to force him to spend there even one day. Do you have an examples when LGBT kid were forced to go to Christian school?
As a person with a trans sibling I can predict what a trans or gay child will do in this situation. The child probably will not tell anyone about his/her true feelings because they are afraid their family will reject them and their society (basically their school) will shun them. They’ve been taught it’s wrong and it’s a sin to be that way and “those” kind of people go to hell. So they won’t come out. They will repress it. And then they will be so miserable, hate life, very likely attempt suicide. But hey, no one was going to “force him to spend even one day there” so it’s no big deal.
So, your sibling were attending one of these christian schools? There are no facts in your post, just guesses.
DP here and I went to a Catholic school so I can tell you what happens: kids suppress their identity, graduate, move on to liberation in college when they no longer have to supress themselves, and then give a big FU to their alma mater and most of their classmates, never looking back. At least that's what several very dear friends of mine did.
How many is several? 10? 20? Out of thousand? There always will be people who not happy about their school/family/college/work ...They will move on with their life and will never look back. What is your point?
