[quote=Anonymous]I would agree the light at Gainsborough and Tuckerman needs a turn signal. That is part of the problem as to why traffic gets congested there at busy times around the school. Moving the parental car loop to the Stadium Lot probably has added to the congestion at Gainsborough and Tuckerman. The lack of a light might have been a factor in the first accident at Gainsborough and Tuckerman this school year. I would also agree there needs to be a four way stop or a traffic guard at the intersection of Victory and the exit to the Churchill student parking lot both in the morning and afternoon. That is a particularly dangerous intersection with students crossing at that crosswalk which bottlenecks traffic trying to turn towards Gainsborough. I also support the comment about the danger of talking on a cell phone while driving. Current school administrators are guilty of violating that driving rule as well as parents and students at Churchill. Speed is an issue in the neighborhood. Speed cameras would be a great addition to the roads around Churchill especially Gainsborough. Why have a camera down the hill by Regency Estates but not by Churchill? I am just afraid a pedestrian is going to get hit again like last year with some of the recklessness. Speed enforcement would remind all drivers to slow down. I think there were changes made at Churchill this year that might have ended one problem but created others. A new traffic study is warranted since there have been at least two accidents this school year in the vicinity of the school. I think parents and students who drive to school on a regular basis should be included in the discussion because they would have valuable insight as what is it like navigating these roads. Perhaps even invite the input of neighbors because they probably know where the crashes tend to occur and why they occur more than anyone. Ultimately, there are county experts who decide where signage, lights, and speed cameras go. Mrs. Heckert and MCPS should have these experts come to Churchill and monitor traffic over a period of time to see the daily patterns and make changes on the public roads where needed and recommend changes for the school campus lots.
