I am amazed at how people in the DC area take advantage of Au Pairs. They bring the girls into their homes as part of a cultural exchange and then treat them like nannies/maids. There is no attempt to integrate the Au Pair into the family.
Lol. They are there to take care of kids and do light housework. What would you have them do? It's kind of the point.
It is supposed to be a cultural exchange, not a way to hire a nanny without paying minimum wage. They should not be doing any more child care than you would expect from your own daughter to provide to siblings.
From au pair in America : Au pairs can work a maximum of 10 hours a day and 45 hours per week. The au pair is entitled to one and a half days off each week, which means that if her hours are spread over 6 days, one of those work days cannot exceed 5 hours of work. Au pairs get a full week-end off every month, from Friday night to Monday morning. Any hours that an au pair has responsibility for the children, even if she is sleeping, are considered work hours. That's a little more than my kid would be expected to do.
