It is a revenue grab. No reason they wouldnt give you GA if you have MLS. They are following ECNL.[/quote]

Way too many GA teams in the DMV already. Just diluting their own product down by adding more.  Unless the strategy is "Hunger Games" style survival of the fittest and they let everyone have it and then see who cant compete and has to be relegated to Aspire.[/quote]

Some would say dilute but looking at the local ECNL clubs the talent is already diluted.  A couple of decent teams but the rest are "OK".  ECNL needs to re-shuffle divisions to make talent more interesting.  [/quote]

It isn't diluted, it's stagnant, entirely different. People seem to believe the long con from youth coaches that talent is diluted because of all the clubs when in fact they don't want to admit their poor training. England has a population roughly 1/5th of the US, Netherlands have a population that is 5% of the US...etc...yet other countries produce far more skilled players in general. Without some kind of carrot for these clubs to lose or obtain they never will get any better. The current model of a lot of ECNL clubs is to recruit the better players from the other leagues. That isn't sustainable and we are seeing now the damage that it has caused.[/quote]

Other countries doing more with less population has more to do with our broken pay to play model and the fact that the US is so much larger (the US is 75x larger in land mass than England but only 5x the population), so while we do have a larger population it's spread out more geographically.  then factor in that US Soccer is a joke and families have to pay to develop a kid, soccer in the US becomes about not the best player but the best player that can afford travel and training.[/quote]

Its also the number of different sports opportunities here and where soccer/football ranks versus other countries.  Yeah we have so much more population but all the best athletes arent playing soccer.  There basketball, american football, baseball/softball, lacrosse, hockey in cold weather states.[/quote]
