Observations through (most of) March: (1) SJC isn't what they have been and have taken lumps but play the toughest out of conference schedule of IAC/WCAC teams. ???: Will the schedule pay dividends as league play starts and will grueling early season temper them? (2) The DC area has a lot of parity (and is a little down). There is no Landon 2017, SJC 2022, Prep 2023, or any team approaching those levels. (3) The strongest area teams all have big question marks with common themes of inconsistency (with one exception): - SJC: aforementioned tough start and replacing key graduation hits and Dunkel injury. - Prep: Jekyll/Hyde syndrome - they look great at points but have surrendered runs in several games including Thursday's clearing collapse in Jesuit Classic. - Landon: No bad losses (1 goal games vs SP and Haverford) but no big wins. Struggles to consistently produce offensively with big dry spells. - Gonzaga: Same story, different year - athletic but undisciplined. Their riding was the difference against Prep showcasing the full field athleticism. Sloppy play led to three losses to MIAA. - Bullis: Quietly off to a 7-1 start. Schedule isn't super strong but it's not their fault DeMatha, Spalding, and Loyola are all down. Lost against their best opponent (SP). Most consistent play of DC teams. Dark Horses: - Good Counsel is way stronger in DS year two, and he was an excellent recruiter and program builder at SAES. If he can lock down western Maryland talent, they are probably on the rise with year round lacrosse focused kids. Could make a run at the WCAC this year. - PVI is off to a good record start but are playing the weakest schedule in decades. Hard to take them seriously. Predictions: WCAC: Gonzaga. They've looked much better recently and have the most athleticism and experience in WCAC. IAC: Landon. Similar to Gonzaga, they are athletic between the lines and have a good and experienced senior class.
