Sadly, at the end of the day, it’s pretty difficult to help someone who doesn’t want or isn’t ready for help. She could have said so many things to the police or her parents there that she didn’t say. She absolutely did not deserve what happened to her, but people are not mind readers. It’s really easy after the fact to say what you would have done.
People who had received proper training in domestic violence and followed that training would have been far more use to her than what she received. The police knew that an eyewitness had reported seen him hitting her multiple times — no need for mind reading. The lengths some of you go to defend incompetence is quite something.
Actually, this isn’t true. There were apparently two separate calls and we don’t know if the officers on the scene knew about the reports of him hitting her. They were responding to a separate call that she hit him. Yes, more training in recognizing and dealing with domestic violence would be great, totally agree. But no one should lose their job over this!
The second body cam video released shows that the officers knew about both calls. They tell Gabby that a witness saw Brian slap her and she denies it or minimizes it (“he grabbed my face, he didn’t hit me).
Ok thanks for clarifying. In that case, not sure what else the cops were supposed to do? Even if they had sent her to a hotel and arranged for a mental health or social work consult, it sounds like she would have continued the trip?
None of us has a crystal ball. A proper response may have led to a different result,
