Not sure what you mean by his heritage and relationship to Western civilization.  Are you talking about Tunisia as part of the Roman Empire, homeland of Augustine, its status as a French colony, or his French citizenship?

The Enlightenment was possible only because of what Islam passed on to the West--Aristotle.  What are we giving to Islam to spur its Enlightenment?  The Kardashians? [/quote]

Christianity was born in the Middle East, not that far from where Islam was born about 600 years later. But for whatever reason Mohammed looked a lot better than Jesus, even though JC was all about loving thy neighbor. The most he did in terms of violence was get angry in a temple and toss out the money changers.[/quote]
