Where I come from, dinner parties are really common and growing up, I never went to a party with just cake, even if it was held 2-4. Hosting a party means showing your guests what you can cook - whether it's BBQ, a casserole, seven layer dip, whatever just serve up something! And a Costco cake isn't really food - that's dessert.
