I wonder whether it is data from the Pew Institute, discussed in today's NY Times, that has the Fairfax and Montgomery County communities all riled up.  If the education leadership is as riled up as the community perhaps this explains why each is trying to change the rules of the game they a losing.  Montgomery County to eliminate pathways for acceleration and Fairfax to change their screeening examinations.  While the "rule changes of the educational game" by the waning establishment may be designed to hurt the already highly performing student segment and help the rest (close the expanding achievement and performance gap); there will be other unintended consequences of the dumb-down approach to the regional economy.

The date from the Pew Institute does not substantiate these high flying performers cheat (at least any more than others), rather they work harder and have different priorities in life.[/quote]
