In terms of proximity, Nogales would be the most likely crossing but Lukeville could be another possibility. Sometimes the Mexican authorities check trunks at entry, other times not. And before you even get to the Mexican border, odds are strong that you’d need to pass through a US internal border checkpoint. There are internal border checkpoints between Tucson & Nogales, and between Tucson & Lukeville. These checkpoints also use modern tech like thermal imaging. However, the hours at these checkpoints do vary. It could certainly be done but not without at least some risk of being caught.
