I will preface this by acknowledging that what happened is sad for this boy who had begun his life here. And not how I’d want things done if I was in charge. But also wondering - as the media and PPs are accepting at face value that the father has a pending asylum claim, per the attorney. I’m assuming, if he does, then he will be interviewed while in detention, as is still happening. It may be that he goes through the process and is not found eligible for asylum. What do you make of this?
It’s no use to be objective or logical with this crowd. The people want to be outraged, so the people will be outraged. There’s no such thing as a fake asylum claim! #believealleconomicmigrants
It's not a fake asylum claim because you say it's so. There are well pled cases and not well pled cases. Either the Judge gets to decide and not some anon keyboard warrior with an on-line degree from Trump U. With a good pro-bono lawyer anyone can prepare and make a good case for asylum. There is a definite formula to be followed. I've yet to appear in court on an asylum claim that wasn't successful. The courts are so backed up right now, that a person can stay in the US for a very long time until their cases are heard. That's not the fault of those seeking asylum, I imagine whatever is being spent on ICE could have funded lots of court proceedings and lots of Judges.
I appreciate the partially civil response, but just like I can’t say with certainty that his asylum case is fake, neither do you know that it is legitimate. And your point above about the formula goes to my point: economic migrants are coached on what to say. That doesn’t mean it’s TRUE. The reality is that most of them are looking for a better opportunity. I don’t blame them, but being here in this country is not something they’re entitled to.
Do you not believe in the law? Do you not believe in our government's rules? In asylum cases people have to pass a credible fear interview? You know what, I am not going to explain the process. All that matters is that they were LEGAL. Respect the law. For goodness sake, stop justifying the Gestapo and respect your country's laws!
