Long time MoCo resident here with family in NoVa. Sure, NoVa isn’t perfect. But the quality of life is empirically better. The neighborhoods are nicer, most with a decent level of retail nearby. Trash in medians and on streets, crumbling roads, you just don’t see as much of it in NoVa. Crime is lower, even in the relatively “urban areas” like Rosslyn, Tysons, Crystal City and Ballston. Springfield, Fairfax, Reston, etc may not be paradise but they’re nice, clean, and have great offerings for families not to mention restaurants and shopping. The job market is way better than MoCo - not even comparable. Schools are comparable and in better shape (MCPS schools are literally mold filled and deteriorating across the county). And the good things about MoCo, like diversity, exist in NoVa, too. And from a state perspective, the university system in VA is miles above MD. I say this as a proud Terp. MoCo has very few areas that are really thriving. And areas like Rockville Pike and Rio are fine but stagnating. So yes, doesn’t make me happy, but NoVa is nicer and MoCo is on a continued trajectory of decline. I blame MoCo’s feckless county council.
10 years resident of NoVa here. You absolutely have no idea of what you're talking about here. I doubt you even live in Montgomery county.
Tell me what I got wrong about NoVa vs MoCo and be specific. Give examples. I’ll wait.
I highlighted what you got wrong. The claim that quality of life is better in NoVa is ridiculous.
You have no evidence for bolded. So give some actual examples grounded in fact. Facts are MoCo has slipped in terms of overall wealth, performance of schools, and neighborhoods that were once solidly middle class and safe are now experiencing higher crime, run down infrastructure, and businesses shuttering. To the poster above who cites the “continuous improvement” of DTSS, by what measure. Stores closing and restaurants shuttering? Repeated incidents of gun violence over the last few years? I love DTSS and live only two miles away. But I no longer go at night after a neighbor was robbed near Wayne and Georgia at gunpoint. Sure, violence can happen anywhere. But violent crime and car jacking, robberies, property theft are still comparatively high as compared to other parts of the county and as compared to areas like Arlington and Fairfax. And again, the job market in MoCo is barely beating save for the “medical and technology corridor”, though the number of jobs offered are minuscule as compared to the market in NoVa. I guess I don’t understand the head in the sand crowd about MoCo. We deserve better.
Do you? You're the one who made the claim. You supposedly don't even live in NoVa, but you're telling me that quality of life is better in NoVa. Everything you're posting, are the normal talking points from the NoVa side in the continuous NoVa vs MoCo debate. LOL Troll
