Interesting piece in The Atlantic about Weiss's decision to pull the segment (gift link): https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/12/60-minutes-cecot/685403/?gift=xC_35bkfSCnmAUbAzEjt0elc5xcgI8qC9-JH4bZtjAA&utm_source=copy-link&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share I don't know what to believe anymore about most things, but if this is true it gives a different and more justified view of why she pulled it. Basically, she thought it was just not very good TV. FWIW, the Canadian stream will get plenty of views now...
I don't think this article "justifies" it at all. Even if we all pretend to believe that the move is not political (and I believe that it is political), her motive isn't to protect journalistic standards but to create a more conflict-driven television. And she bungles the job so badly that she draws attention to what she is censoring and basically crates a conflict-driven workplace. She comes off looking bad either way. Moreover, the NEW part of this show doesn't have to be the footage of CECOT, it is the testimonies for goodness sake. The interviews with the prisoners and the lawyer who studied all the cases.
+1 And it’s telling that she considers the “principals” in this story to be administration officials rather than the actual wrongly imprisoned victims.
