What led to his dismissal was lying about a crime. That crosses a line set by the FCC for broadcast licenses. He might have gotten away with it on TikTok but its off-limits on public airwaves.
Yes it should be noted that Kimmel had no basis in fact for his assertions. I can't figure out why he stated such a significant lie. My guess is he intuited that Kirk's murder is a watershed event in American politics. I don't think the left yet fully understands the consequences of making this guy a martyr. Kimmel somehow felt compelled to take a delusional position in response., I am disturbed at the notion of the FCC controlling speech. I think posters have a right to be concerned. Schumer indicated lawsuits should issue. But who is going to sue? The two biggest distributors of Kimmel's content are calling for the FCC to take further action. And ABC just wants to let this go. They will see no upside to defending Kimmel. Ratings and revenue matter no matter the ideology. Remember the Dan Rather incident? Heck Rather was doing what the network wanted. But the big money network could get a former AG to write a memo to justify canning Rather. And yesterday an ABC reporter was describing a message Robinson sent to his lover confessing to murder and arguably obstructing justice as touching.. it wasn't touching - the perp was being evil and manipulative. With capital murder in the air, the trans kid was and is scared to death. He is cooperating - a significant fact. This is a reminder for all reporters to be aware of confirmation bias. It happens across the political spectrum but as the above poster noted more scrutiny is applied to public broadcasters. ABC desperately wants to move past these issues.
