Mr. Hall was likely hired for continuity since he worked at the school previously and was well-liked. APS always treasured continuity and longevity in the various high school administration positions. So any shake up is probably due to a culture change higher up
A lot of teachers retired too. There was just too much harassment from a certain group of parents. This is why some school board members left too.
What are the parents harassing teachers and admins about? Schools are open, what could possibly be that universal a concern.
Oh they found other things. Parent rights, amirite?!?
That’s not happening in APS
of course it is, we have our own local version of an astro-turf parents rights group with secret funding that started with OPEN SCHOOLS NOW and then moved onto other things.
What other things? We don’t have the book banning or gender issues.
PP hates APE (not sure their real name) and anything they stand for. I don't follow them but from what gets posted here, probably restricting phones and adding more days in class to the school calendar.
A lot of people late APE. Everyone should be paying closer attention to them. The anti trans people are part of their big tent coalition. So are the school choice people. They are lobbying for school choice so they can siphon precious dollars away from our public schools and so they can use them to fund their own kids private education. They do a lot of lobbying at the state level. They will not disclose who funds them. Ask them and see! It's all very secretive. They don't even sign their own names to their letters. Who are they really? Closet MAGAs, or in some cases overt MAGAs with right wing ties.
I doubt principals are retiring because there is state lobbying for school choice or trans issues in general. That was the original question for this thread, as to why there is so much admin turnover. My personal intuition is that discipline at schools is much harder, with permissive parents, raised by screens etc.
That and (almost) no options for suspending or expelling kids.
Is that new?
Within the last…. 20 years I’d say. Especially in the last 10. And all of the above has been worsened since the pandemic.
It’s true for most all public school districts. In the 90s and early 00s, suspension and expulsion rates were quite high among many school districts and climbing. There was a clarion call among educators to reverse that alarming trend. Now those stats look really good, after public schools adopted new methods to lower those rates.
The stats look good, the schools don’t when you’re inside them.
+1
