Two excerpts from Booker's long senate floor speech have 1.8 million and 2.1 million views each. He has a bunch of other clips with 500K+ views. There are also about 100+ more tiktoks from ordinary Americans recapping what they thought of and felt during his 25 hour marathon. And while Booker's policy marathon speech was going on, Wisconsin voted and the Dem Judge won by 12 points in a state that Trump just won a few months ago. Booker seems to have captured interest in a viral way. Good for him!
What were the topics of the two excerpts that got so many views?
One tiktok clip (2M+ views) covered a variety of topics at a point where Booker was getting pretty passionate: he was making a call to arms for Americans to let this not be another normal day in America, talked about Medicaid cuts and the impact on Americans, referenced Veterans who had written him letters talking about cuts to mental health benefits/suicide support, protection the constitution and to not let Trump threaten judges and other branches of government for serving as a check on his power. Another tiktok clip (1.9M views) was a heartfelt letter from a family in Maryland where the father had been mistakenly deported to El Salvador by Trump's admin, Trump's admin actually admitted that they made an error but they can't get him back. The man who was deported to this horrible prison is a US citizen, married to a US citizen and father to a disabled child. The man's last name is Garcia and the Trump team won't do anything to get him out of the h-ll hole prison in El Salvador he's been sent to with hardened criminals despite it being an "administrative error" they can't fix. It was appalling. There's another clip that's at about 900K views about Medicaid cuts and how Americans will be hurt. He read a lot of letters he'd received from Americans, read quotes by Republicans and Democrats and had a lot of really powerful lines: "It's not right or left, it's right or wrong. this isn't a partisan moment, it's a moral moment." on him beating strom thurmond's record for longest senate speech when he was filibustering against passage of civil rights act: "I'm not here because of his speech. I'm here in spite of his speech. I'm here because as powerful as he was, the people were more powerful." Booker was amazing.
