As a current SR parent, I am absolutely disgusted by this entire thread, and even more disgusted that it hasn’t been shut down. The fact that there are over 200 posts about 1 teacher - a human being - who isn’t here to defend himself, and people can just freely shame, defend, or generally talk about behind a computer screen without all the facts is just gross to me. It’s no wonder our kids are struggling in so many ways - we as parents set the example and it starts with us. Be better.
Fair point. I jumped in to offer support to the school and to him, but now see it wasn’t helpful at all.
I did the same. I thought that defending an educator who has been nothing but supportive to my daughters for years was the right thing to do but I see how this just gives more fuel to his critics. If my girls weren’t already in high school I’d be looking for a new school, I’ve learned a lot about my fellow SR parents and am disgusted.
I don’t understand, if you don’t believe in Catholic values, why did you send your daughters to a Catholic school all these years? SR is as a foundation, a Catholic school. If you support a teacher who had been trying to subvert Catholic values at a Catholic school, then I would say, you, like him, shouldn’t be at a Catholic school.
I don’t believe he’s been subverting Catholic values, I think he said one stupid thing that has been taken out of context. I am a Catholic who has read all of the papal Enciclicals around sexuality and he is no more out of line with catholic doctrine than any teacher who has used artificial birth control. Is anyone going after them? My family has been in Catholic schools for generations, admittedly my grandparents generation were much more devout with daily mass as part of their practice. It’s really odd to see all of these families come to my Catholic school, many of whom aren’t Catholic just MAGA conservatives, and suddenly they’re the Catholic police.
He said he feels great about subverted Catholic values. How much worse could it be? Even if he did not subvert the Catholic teachings in that act, he said he felt great about subverting Catholic teachings, and that is the crux of the matter.
That’s not what he said. He said “subverting the Catholic Church’s agenda on homosexuality”. Agendas aren’t values.
Mince words however you want, he did say he has been purposely subverting Catholic teachings. The Catholic Church has not embraced the doctrines of LGBTQ, so he is working against the Catholic Church. If he doesn’t agree with or respect Catholic teachings, he shouldn’t be teaching at a Catholic school.
What specifically are the Catholic Church "teachings" on homosexuality? And "teachings" is still different than "agenda". Teachings may support an agenda but they are different things.
You can Google that yourself if you need to educate yourself further. The final point of this thread is: If an educator does not agree with or respect Catholic teachings, he shouldn’t be teaching at a Catholic school. There are plenty of public Moco schools or woke private schools that will embrace him with open arms.
Which catholic teachings? We are all required to go to weekly mass, if we have a teacher come in and share that they spent their weekend not attending mass should they be out?
Actually, this is not an issue of a teacher's particular behavior. Of course there are many non-Catholic teachers that do not attend weekly mass. There are also teachers that engage in other sinful acts on a daily basis. As long as they don't bring those concepts into the classroom and imply that it is fine to engage in those behaviors, there would not be an issue. That dean was gay. Assuming he acted on his sexual preferences, he would be sinning. That wasn't the issue here. It was him admitting that he enjoyed subverting Catholic doctrine in the classroom by helping to affirm students' gender or sexual identities.
No, just to subvert the agenda of certain Catholics who are anti-LBTBQ.
