A few things: Bipolar can be a very extreme illness especially if left untreated - the guy in Boston who broke into a home earlier this year in his neighborhood and violently attacked and murdered three elders was floridly psychotic after months in a manic state and unmedicated. People with serious bipolar disorder do sometimes suffer psychotic episodes and baseline paranoia that makes relationship to other people very fraught. People should be keeping this reality in mind when they hear Britney’s accusations against her father and other family members and everyone else she accuses of being out to get her. Britney’s wealth had dwindled to the single digit millions at the time she shaved her head and was ultimately hospitalized and finally came under the conservatorship. Her father Jamie managed her and her assets to an estimation of $60-70 million at present which suggests he didn’t harm her but rather helped her to meet her debts and ongoing support obligations and to build a fortune upon which she could rely for many years going forward if managed properly. The fortune would be even bigger today if she hadn’t insisted on quitting. The free Britney brigade wants to claim she was being forced to work but then also wants to claim Jamie stole her fortune and there just isn’t any evidence of that yet presented, only Britney’s perhaps paranoid mind making accusations and compelling her to spend millions on a lawyer who in two years hasn’t been able to present evidence to substantiate the claims. Meanwhile Jamie was required to file regularly into the court reports of her finances under the conservatorship and so far he’s not wearing cuffs so it seems the DA of that jurisdiction saw nothing to alarm. There’s an article on DM this morning that asserts Britney wants to make up with her dad now. I’m admittedly the poster who has two nieces that suffer bipolar and act just like Britney but with fewer dollars involved - they both definitely financially exploit their parents and anyone else they can and it’s an ongoing roller coaster of emotions dealing with their cycling and manipulation etc. When I look at Britney, I see how it would be if either of my nieces won the lottery and were the ones with money that they could use to further manipulate. The mental illness is the driving issue, and all this drama would be happening on a smaller scale to the Spears family if Britney was a bipolar hairdresser or LPN or perpetually unemployed drug addict in small town Louisiana. Posters said Sam should get a real job - in Britney’s comments on the split thus far one of her complaints was that Sam has been unavailable to her because of his filming schedule and being away from home to do that. Sam IS trying to be his own independent person and there isn’t evidence that he actually threatened anything, his public statements have been respectful considering that it appears clear he was a victim of domestic abuse in the marriage as per the statements of household staff and security. It is one of the hardest things imaginable to have an intimate relationship with an unmedicated mentally ill person, so I just don’t fault this guy until I see good reason to. He stayed with her for six+ years - the majority of which time she was under the conservatorship and medicated and engaging (albeit reluctantly) in ongoing therapy and occasional stints in hospital when she became ill despite the meds and therapy - because that is how sick she is. Since getting ‘free’ and marrying Sam she isn’t compliant with anything and he realizes she cannot be saved by love alone. I come from a family with mental illness and have spent decades now working with people who have mental illness in family and criminal and dependency/neglect courts. I’ve had hundreds of hours of relevant trainings and read voluminously in order to best understand and support my clients and when it was my role, to also protect the public from the potential harm presented by defendants or respondents with serious mental illness. The Britney situation is sad. The Free Britney movement was a beast born of the social media age which will now observe Britney’s ‘freedom’ and have the opportunity to consider the role they played in bringing about whatever happens next. I have nothing but compassion for all the Spears family members who have been on a hellish ride for years and one that they can never get off - Britney included.
+1 thank you for your comprehensive post
+2 Agree with this completely.
