The adult child of abusive parents who hijacks so many threads to talk about herself and bring her own baggage to an OP’s very different situation. I’m sorry for her hurt, but in so many instances her history and views are irrelevant to the OP. There may be more than one of these posters.
Are you talking about the one who is mad that her parents wouldn’t buy her a Manhattan condo or pay oos tuition?
She’s unforgettable, for sure. But no, I’m talking about the poster who showed up on that thread—and on so many other threads—to tell us that abusive parents do exist, complete with a para or two of her own bio, so therefore OP’s parents must be abusive.
Eh, but on the Manhattan condo/oos tuition thread, the OP did not actually have a real problem -- her parents were not abusive, she was just really entitled. So in that situation, a comment or two about what abuse actually looks like is useful IMO. It helps demonstrate to OP that while her parents may not have given her everything she ever wanted, or even everything they could have technically afforded to give her, this is not the same as true abuse. That's on topic, in my book. I havne't noticed this being a problem on other threads.
I agree that writing about real abuse can be instructive. Unfortunately that wasn’t what was going on. The adult child with truly abusive parents was using her own history to say that some parents could be abusive, therefore OP’s parents must also have been abusive and any doubters were wrong.
