First of all, no, those words don't mean the same thing. 
Second of all, allowing people to be seen as human beings and worthy of dignity isn't celebrating or promoting anything. It's acknowledging that not everyone is the same, and you don't get to tell someone they are offensive at their core.

No amount would do it for me, but then I am a happily married, emotionally stable 46 YO with a lot of life experience, perspective and an understanding that life isn’t always going to go my way. I don’t crave attention or validation from others. I am secure in myself and have a loving support system around me.

Because there is no way to turn anyone gay. Period. Full stop. Nothing could have turned you gay in middle or high school and nothing can turn you gay now. Same for kids today. You’re either gay or not. Nothing any teacher tells you, talks about, reads to you, etc would have ever turned you gay. You can’t be turned gay not because you’re “happily married” (spoiler alert- many gay people are happily married too), but because — wait for it — you’re not gay, never was, and never will be. Virtually all of them will tell you that they know someone- or they themselves- are experimenting with their sexuality. You think, if someone reads a book that has a gay character in it, they're going to run out and have gay sex? You really think that? You think a teacher talking about the civil rights movement that includes gay rights, they're going to think, "I gotta get me some of that STAT!" You think if they talk about an event in history that involves a gay person, they're going to look across the room and all of a sudden have feelings for someone of the same sex? 
The only person sexualizing children in this scenario are people like you. Hidden trauma, indeed.

That's the entire purpose of "don't say gay" because if you come home and your child was exposed, it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. It's wiping them out of existence.
