Well, I was a size 8 in the not so distant past. I weighed approx 155 and I'm 5'2".
No way.
OKAY THIS IS HILARIOUS. I opened up this thread and saw this response on the front page, and was 100% certain it was mine. I skipped to the last page, and someone has just disputed it. My weight and size has varied really wildly throughout my adult life, but one thing remains constant-- I look thinner and comfortably wear much smaller sizes than my weight would suggest. When I was 125, people thought I weighed 100. When I weighed 165, people assumed 140. But it's not just that-- I literally fit smaller sizes than I "should" no matter what I weigh. And they're not tight. It must be a confluence of factors, including one I am certain of-- I'm very curvy. It's definitely a sort of optical illusion or cognitive bias, because people don't mentally register or "count" boobs, and to a lesser extent, hips, if you have a small waist. When I was bigger, my measurements were 42-32-46 (and up). Right now, since losing weight, they're 38-28-40 and I absolutely wear a size 6. AND NO, I DO NOT KNOW WHY. I just did a Rent-The-Runway membership and perfectly fit a non-stretchy Marchesa dress in a 6R, Chiara Boni 42, Paco Rabanne 38, Herve Leger Small, S-M in most high end designers. I suppose those could be stretched out, though they didn't look it at all. But I also recently bought NWT Diane von Furstenberg 6, Tibi 6, PinupGirl Small, Re/Done, Hudson, AG and Madewell Jeans in a 26-28, etc... I have some Size 6 Old Navy jeans I bought a long time ago and never wore and they are falling off of me, so I'm probably an Old Navy 2 or so. Designer/brand size charts are worse than useless for probably everyone, but definitely for me. Even if I get the size suggested by my relatively smallest measurement (my waist), the clothes are not only always very baggy on my waist, but almost always loose on my hips/bust too (???) I remember when I was bigger, the Loft chart said I was a 14 by my bust, a 16 by my hips and an 10 by my waist, then I'd go into the store and the best fit would be an 8. All I can think of is that it's my specific build-- like I have a very short waist or a certain angle to my ribcage (actually my ribcage is very prominent) or some other weird thing. Plus, as far as my weight, I have a lot of lower body muscle and maybe my bones are made of lead or something, IDK. I haven't weighed myself in many years, but despite wearing a size 6 most often now, I HIGHLY doubt I weigh less than 140-ish. Maybe mid 130s on the very very low end. I just... weigh a lot.
