First of all, the actress playing Shiv has always had hips and a round butt.  There was quite a bit of talk about it during the first season, even.  And she hasn’t gained that much weight, it’s just all concentrated in her hips. IRL, she’s probably quite normal, it’s just we’re used to scarecrow thin women on tv, and the camera does add pounds. Rich [u]wives[/u] tend to be thin,[b] but Shiv isn’t a “wife of,” she’s got her own power.

Finally, she’s wearing clothes that are quite form-fitting, so I don’t think the costumers are trying to hide her shape.  To the contrary — I think they’re emphasizing the fact that Shiv feels very confident, perhaps even over-confident, which is one of the main flaws in the character. She was a good political PR person, but always overestimates her ability in the business world. [/quote]
