You must be new around here.  Predominantly white Takoma Park neighborhoods seceded from predominantly black PG County.  "Marc Elrich, a Takoma Park City Council member and a schoolteacher in Montgomery, still can't see why anyone would be pining for Prince George's. "I would have died if people in Montgomery County had voted to move to Prince George's," Elrich said. "There is a perceived difference that Montgomery County has better schools, better services and higher property values."

East county progressives claim that MCPS is segregated and are encouraging the BOE to start busing kids from east lower SES schools to higher SES schools and vice versa.

All the children in that area, regardless of the county they live in.  MD law allows for this.

Because east county progressives are the ones who want busing to increase diversity.  But the way the define diversity is hypocritical.  When they sway "increase diversity", they mean bringing wealthier white and Asian kids to their schools and sending poorer black and brown kids away from their schools.  They shriek in horror at the thought of bringing in really poor kids from PG county though.  Almost everyone else in the county would prefer to stay in their current school or, perhaps, move to a closer school.  The BOE changed the boundary policy back in 2018 and made diversity the top priority though.   So it will be nearly impossible to move kids to schools closer to home.[/quote]

They're not going to change their mind or say anything interesting or do anything other than tell the same story about "secession" and "East County Progressives." No matter what you think about the issues being raised (and I'm fine with cross county busing if people in PG want it), there's no need to give a troll attention.[/quote]

It's intercounty busing, not cross county busing.  The distances wouldn't be more than a mile or two.  And if you're a real progressive you should be more than fine with it.  You should actively support it and contact the MCPS BOE to tell them this is what you want.  Live your values. [/quote]
