Teachers are allowed to value their health more than some random kid's education. Something is wrong with a teacher if the teacher values a kid's education more than their own health. Give it a rest, angry parents. Get some therapy, develop a value system, and start to realize that it isn't all about you. - Signed, a Parent
The thread was mostly about long-term DL being offered once the COVID-19 risks have been greatly reduced through vaccines and low community spread. There is a point at which subjective concern about one's own health no longer raises a safe workplace issue. When that time comes, the choice is not continued DL or in person, but continued employment as a teacher or leaving the profession. My health is much better since I don't have a commute, cook my own healthy food at home, don't have to constantly lug big files around, interact with sick co-workers, and exercise during my lunch at home. I am free to prioritize my health when called back into the office, but I am not able to demand a full paycheck and continued employment if my employer doesn't agree.
