Exactly as predicted - schools that opened for F2F are already shutting down. “It is proven children have no significant risk,” he said during a July 15 TV appearance. It’s a line that Trump has parroted but that hasn’t been borne out in districts where in-person learning has resumed: Schools in Georgia, North Carolina and Indiana have had to shut down shortly after starting the year because of positive cases" https://www.politico.com/news/2020/08/17/trump-scott-atlas-coronavirus-doctor-396741?fbclid=IwAR1L1_KrSCz6PI-_uagHunMrDCJd6nXl8O53eoEadN14PXL4ZnfGZ7_3rPA Who looks foolish now?
Well they were always going to look foolish- out of control infection rates and lack of proper precautions. What could go wrong?! But the disaster down south doesn’t necessarily mean F2F cannot happen safely- I’ll be curious to see how it goes in the northeastern states. And there are some districts down south that are learning and improving. My nephews district usually returns in early August but delayed a month to make sure they were ready. SIL said they already making Adjustments as they see how things are playing out elsewhere. Now they’re in state with overall high rates but their county and those around them are better. Maybe it won’t work, but i can understand why they want to try.
If they were to open schools here, it would play out the same as it has down south. Within a week or two it would be shutdown. Without major changes in how we test and trace it isn’t viable. This hasn’t happened in the US and we’re likely incapable of doing this as a society that is skeptical of science and embraces baseless conspiracies.
I think this was the most wrong post of the year. It turns out we actually looked smart for not reopening.
