It will just reinforce it, as the clubs will want to keep any parent who is still ready to pay through the nose. Btw, I cannot find the article on the SoccerWire website.
https://www.soccerwire.com/resources/opinion-covid-19-provides-opportunity-for-u-s-soccer-to-shut-down-development-academy/
Here's the title to the Soccerwire hit job on the DA: "OPINION: COVID-19 provides opportunity for U.S. Soccer to shut down Development Academy" In this clearly labeled OPINION piece is one lone supposed fact from an unnamed source, "A Federation source has told SoccerWire that the current 2019-2020 DA season is “likely” to be canceled soon due to the repercussions of the COVID-19 crisis, though no announcements are imminent over Easter weekend." So DA may cancel the remainder of the Spring season due to the Coronavirus? Wow! Glad you had to get a source for that Breaking News you're giving us Soccerwire--AKA Captain Obvious. The same could be said of ECNL or any other league. They may likely cancel their Spring seasons soon too. The rest is the publisher's opinion that now's a good time to end DA. Clearly this website is trying to fight for relevancy with soccer money dwindling due to Coronavirus field closures across the country. It's been well advertised on DCUM that the website openly promotes clubs that pay for special premier partner memberships with three commitment level options. IMHO, ECNL clubs must be paying a lot more these days than DA clubs for these special privileges. Perpetuating the pay to play model in youth soccer is alive and well!
