My ILs have never "beytrayed" me directly, but I do not trust them, at all, because of what they say about other people's very personal business around me. It's kind of funny to see them not get this. They'll spend 30 minutes telling us gory details from Uncle Jim's latest surgery and recovery, then they'll tell us how Cousin Linda just bought a fancy new car even though she was dead broke two years ago.
